Sex is one of the utmost important things in life, sexual intercourse is the closest a couple can physically be, its the closest emotional connection that two people can feel, when it is after marriage. Why do you think people kiss each other? Its because its a way of being physically closer to your partner, showing love and affection, intimacy is important in a relationship. It lets your partner know how you feel, how you're feeling, where you want a relationship to go, and many other wonderful things. If I could re-vote, I would vote that it is one of the most important things. personally i don't even think that marriage is the defining line, i think as long as both people sincerely plan to never have sex with another person their whole life then they should go for it. maybe if a couple was strapped for cash and couldn't afford a wedding they could go this way, but it's a touchy subject... i've always said that a piece of paper can't tell you who you are or what you believe, or what you're worth, and that's all a formal marriage is, a piece of paper, and i value far above the idea of formal marriage the idea of lifelong monogamy. in a marriage with a man and a woman who both have a strong relationship with god there should in my opinion be no 'irreconcilable differences'. after all, the bible tells people to love their partners as christ loved the church, that is, unconditionally. just to clarify, as long as i'm not in some sort of forbidding situation, i.e, isolation from society or being completely broke, i plan to kick off sexual activity with a formal wedding.
