Well I've just recently decided to set my tanks up again. So I thought I'd post up what I'm going to do.

This is a picture of a tank that I'm aiming to achieve, its relatively easy to run and to maintain. I seem to like the very natural looking tanks and that tank immitates the areas the fish live in naturally over in good ol africa Razz

Now onto the fun part the fishies Razz

I used to own alot of tropicals and american cichlids but the tropicals just do shit all but swim and eat all day. The american cichlids got to big and ate to many fish and bashed the living hell out of each other despite the countless caves I'd setup for their living and territorial arrangements. So now I've decided to go to african cichlids which originate from a few lakes in Africa. These guys like their american countparts still rearrange your tank a bit but with big boulders and rocks everywhere itll make their job a bit more difficult. Some of them are territorial but I've upped the tank size to 4 foot by 18 inch deep and heigh so size isn't a problem anymore.

My first choice of fish which I've always desired are Electric Yellows, below. I'm looking at a school of these because of their colour and perhaps a chance they'll breed and bring me in some good income Razz

Secondly I chose Bricardi's. I'm going to get a pair of these because they are quiet territorial.

The last species I've chosen so far are Johanni's. Strange fish but rather pretty.

I'm looking at that species but perhaps in a different colour to blend to the rocks more. But most likely they'll just change to suit.

Water chemistry will be fairly simple in this case. Becuase there's no plants and rubbish floating around and not that many fish. The water will only require a 10-20% change once every 2 weeks. The filter will be needed to be changed once a week. the pH will need to sit on 8 exactly. For now I won't go into to much more depth. Razz

spangled perch wouldnt be surprised they are freshy. Mullets yes they are everywhere Razz

Soon I have to start cycling my tank. Involves starting the nitrogen cycle. Basically throw prawns in the empty tank with filtration systems going then let them rot which then brings on bacteria to eat the ammonia then when those bacteria do a crap, nitrite is formed when they has peaked bacteria forms to combat this then lastly when they crap, they produce nitrate which then is taken from the tank through water changes. Basically the prawns must be kept going for a good 3 weeks.
